When it comes to finishing a room, window coverings make all the difference. Curtains, blinds, and shades aren’t just about privacy, they set the tone for your space! They can completely change how a room feels.

Whether you want something that lets in natural light or something more structured that keeps things private, the right window treatment can tie everything together.

The Best Window Treatment Ideas

I’m sharing some of the best window covering ideas to help you find a style that works with your home, your needs, and your budget.

1. Window Films

Have you considered window films? Now, I wouldn’t recommend these for large windows like what your living room might have. These are for small bathroom windows, front door windows, or closet windows.

Window Clings

Essentially, these are films you apply to your window that add interest and keep your space more private by reducing how see-through the window is.

Here are a few of my favorite window films you can find!

Stained Glass Window Film for Bathroom or Front Door

For smaller windows like in a bathroom, skip the curtains. Use a window film like this instead! It will give your house some variety.

Now, be sure and do you research when it comes to window films. I suggest reading reviews and seeing review photos of it being used in other homes!

These two options seem to have great reviews and look high quality.

Decorative Window Tile Film

This one is SO easy to apply and you can custom order a size so it will fit your window perfectly!

Of course though, you can venture out there on the web and find plenty of other window film options if these two don’t do it for you.

2. Faux Linen Pinch Pleat Curtains

We LOVE these curtains Lauren shared over on Bless’er House. You can find all the details on these gorgeous faux linen pinch pleat curtains on THIS blog post.

In fact, she’s also sharing a ton of other great curtains so we certainly recommend giving that post a visit.

I just adore the rustic inspired curtain rod used to hang these curtains!

3. Curtains & Rods From Amazon

Alright, don’t skip over Amazon when shopping for curtains. Amazon actually has some great picks at awesome prices. Here are a few of my favorites!

Blue and White Floral Curtains

If you’re a grandmillennial lover, these block print curtains are the most gorgeous!

Can you tell I love all things blue and white, coastal, and simple? These curtains are just that!

Linen Blend Pinch Pleated Curtains

These curtains are GORGEOUS. You won’t believe they are from Amazon!

I like to keep things simple when it comes to curtains but not boring. This means no solid colors, but nothing to dramatic either. Just a simple stripe or pattern is nice!

DriftAway Chris Linen Blackout Curtains

Need blackout curtains? These are the ones to grab!

Ready to add a splash of color to your living room? These green curtains could certainly be a focal point and are SO good.

Geometric Trim Green Curtains

The color on these is earthly and beautiful. They are such a great find!

I searched high and low on Amazon for curtain rods and honesty, a lot were just solid gold or pretty boring. I loved how this one had an acrylic ball on the end for some interest!

Ivilon Drapery Treatment Window Curtain Rod

This is THE curtain rod to buy from Amazon. It’s sleek, beautiful, and easy to hang.

Well, do we have you convinced that Amazon is the place to shop yet? 😉

5. Simple Roman Shades

Not a fan of curtains? Want something a little more different and unique? How about roman shades? Roman shades are another great window covering technique.

Here are some examples of roman shades and products you may love. Roman shades (in my opinion) look best in a kitchen. (The ideal setup for me would be window films in the bathroom, curtains in the living room, and these roman shades for the kitchen!)

Bamboo Roman Shades

Different from the ordinary curtain, these provide contrast in any room.

One more bamboo option for you here..

Bamboo Roman Shades

Here’s another variation of bamboo roman shades! (can you tell I love bamboo shades?!)

Bamboo not your thing? No worries.. try linen roman shades instead!

Scalloped 100% Linen Custom Soft Roman Shades

How STUNNING are these custom linen roman shades? Perfect for a kitchen!

I saved the best for last.. how GORGEOUS are these block print roman shades? I mean, WOW. SO beautiful and you can order a custom size to fit your window exactly. I’d say these are just dying to go in your kitchen. 🙂

6. Make an Upholstered Cornice

Feeling crafty? Try a DIY window covering project! This is a fabric upholstered cornice tutorial. The GREAT thing about this is you can pick your own fabric pattern/color so you can really customize it and have a ton of options on how it will end up looking!

If you have a hallway window, home office window, or breakfast nook window, this would be a FANTASTIC and unique way to cover the window.

7. Classic Window Blinds

We can not forget blinds! We’ve already talked about curtains, roman shades, and a DIY project… but let’s take it back to the basics. Blinds are a classic!

Blinds are really easy and provide a way to cover your window without the window becoming the focal point of your room.

Blinds look good just about anywhere. In a kitchen, dining room, bathroom, hallway, etc. Plus, they are easy to open or close.

Light Filtering Mini Blinds

Don’t forget the simplicity of blinds! Sometimes white blinds are all you need.

Personally, if you are using blinds, I’d just go with white ones. No need to make a statement here!

Conclusion

Window coverings may seem like a small detail, but they really can make or break the look of a room.

The right choice adds warmth, texture, and personality while also giving you the light control and privacy you need.

From curtains to sleek blinds and cozy shades, there’s an option out there for every style and space.
