How to Easily Clean Makeup Brushes at Home
Today I’m showing you my simple technique for cleaning my makeup brushes!
I’ve been doing this for YEARS now and think it’s truly the easiest and best way to clean makeup brushes.
What You’ll Need
- Makeup brush cleaner pad – This textured pad help break down makeup and remove residue from your brushes.
- Real Techniques Makeup Cleaning Gel – This is my favorite makeup brush cleaner!
- Warm water – For rinsing your brushes before and after cleaning.

Real Techniques Brush & Sponge Cleansing Gel
You’ve gotta try the Real Techniques Brush & Sponge Cleansing Gel. It makes cleaning your brushes so easy!
(they just revamped the packaging, so it looks different than the bottle I have, but it’s the same product!)

I can’t recommend it enough!
Step 1: Secure Pad to Bottom of Sink
Place the makeup pad at the bottom of your sink (I normally use the bathroom sink but used the kitchen sink today for better lighting.

Make sure to get one with suction cups at the bottom so it stays in place!

Step 2: Squeeze Out a Little Bit of Real Techniques Gel
Squeeze a small amount of the Real Techniques Makeup Cleaning Gel directly onto the cleaning pad.

Step 3: Wet Your Brushes
Start by running your brush under warm water.

Step 4: Swirl Brush on the Pad to Remove Makeup
Gently swirl the brush on the textured surface of the pad.
The grooves and bumps help lift makeup, dirt, and oils from the bristles.

Work in circular motions, and don’t be afraid to focus on the areas with heavy buildup.

That was my foundation brush, next up is my blush brush.
Look how much blush is left on there! Yuck!

Next up, my eyebrow brush!

Look at how much brown tint is coming off that thing. YUCCKK! So glad I’m getting it cleaned up.

Step 5: Dry Your Brushes
Gently squeeze out excess water with a clean towel.
Then, lay your brushes flat on the towel to air dry.

Avoid standing them upright while wet, as this can cause water to seep into the ferrule.
Conclusion
Cleaning your brushes doesn’t have to be a chore!
With a simple cleaning pad and a trusted brush cleanser, your brushes will stay soft, hygienic, and ready for flawless makeup every time.
